Will Tunisia return to authoritarian rule?

Thousands protest against President Kais Saeid who is ruling by decree after seizing executive power in July.

Mass protests pushed Tunisia’s former longtime leader Zine El Abidine Ben Ali from power 10 years ago.

Now, some are worried that the country could return to authoritarianism.

Thousands rallied in the capital Tunis for a second time since President Kais Saied seized executive power in July.

Saied sacked the prime minister and suspended the parliament, saying the measures were needed to fix Tunisia’s political and economic problems.

He has since further consolidated his power, deciding to rule by decree.

So is there a chance Tunisia will return to an absolute, one-man rule?
