The system called Pegasus is from an Israeli spyware company called NSO Group.
According to evidence collected by the Paris-based NGO Forbidden Stories and the rights group Amnesty International, it seems there are 50,000 people whose phones have been selected for surveillance.
Most of the numbers are in Gulf countries and North Africa, but other affected nations include India, Pakistan and France.
